Full Kitchen Remodel
⟟ Location: Murphy, NC

Project Overview
This kitchen remodel in Murphy, NC focused on transforming an extremely small, outdated kitchen into a functional, character-filled space designed for everyday living, cooking, and gathering.
The original kitchen suffered from severe space limitations, outdated finishes, and almost no usable prep area. The homeowners wanted a kitchen that felt open, practical, and welcoming while dramatically increasing both storage and working space.
By fully reworking the layout, we were able to create a highly functional kitchen with significantly more countertop space, improved storage, dedicated seating, and upgraded appliances—all within the existing footprint of the home.
The original kitchen was heavily dated and extremely limited in functionality.
Some of the major challenges included:
- Pea green cabinetry and finishes throughout the kitchen
- Only approximately 6 feet of usable countertop space, including the sink
- Entire kitchen workspace confined to a single 11-foot wall
- Aging oven that was older than the homeowners themselves
- Very limited cabinet storage
- Virtually no dedicated food prep area
- Small dining space that could only accommodate a two-person table
- No dishwasher
The layout made cooking difficult and inefficient, and the space lacked both storage and comfortable gathering areas.

Solution:
Complete Kitchen Reconfiguration
Rather than keeping the original single-wall kitchen layout, we fully gutted the space and redesigned the kitchen into a more efficient L-shaped configuration.
The oven was relocated to the opposite wall, allowing the kitchen to expand beyond its original footprint and dramatically improve workflow and functionality.
This new layout created substantially more usable workspace while making the kitchen feel larger and more open overall.
Expanded Counter Space & Storage
One of the biggest improvements came from dramatically increasing both countertop space and storage capacity.
The new L-shaped design created:
- Significantly more food prep area
- Improved cabinet storage
- Better appliance spacing and workflow
- A more practical day-to-day cooking experience
The finished kitchen now offers double—if not triple—the usable working space compared to the original layout.
Full Height Tile Feature Wall
To brighten the kitchen and create visual impact, we installed white subway tile from the countertop all the way to the ceiling.
A custom picture-frame tile feature was created around the oven area using a contrasting accent tile, giving the kitchen a unique focal point and adding character to the overall design.
Custom Kitchen Island Addition
One of the homeowners’ biggest priorities was adding a dishwasher, something the original kitchen did not have space for.
To accomplish this, we designed and built a custom kitchen island that became a central feature of the remodel.
The island includes:
- Integrated dishwasher placement facing the sink for easy loading and workflow
- Additional prep and countertop space
- Extra storage capacity
- Open seating area on the back side for casual dining and gathering
This addition completely changed how the kitchen functions on a daily basis.
Result
The finished kitchen is now a bright, highly functional gathering space that includes:
- A fully redesigned L-shaped kitchen layout
- Dramatically expanded countertop and prep space
- Increased storage throughout
- Full-height subway tile backsplash with custom accent detail
- Open shelving for functionality and character
- Integrated dishwasher within a custom island
- Dedicated seating area for dining together
- Improved workflow and appliance spacing
What was once a cramped, outdated kitchen with almost no working space is now a welcoming, efficient, and character-filled centerpiece of the home.
